THE CHALLENGE

The challenge was developing a mark that emphasized the company’s unique holistic approach to assisting budding entrepreneurs on their creative business journey.

I was contacted by Brandy Cochrane, Founder/Strategist, to re-design Sustainable’s logo and capture the core values of the company, which revolve around innovation, creativity, energy, and fun.There needed to be a very identifiable mark that was easily transferable and portable across platforms.

BUILDING THE CONCEPT

The team at SI were truly wonderful to work with. They provided us with a very clear vision and goal when it came to outlining how they wanted their company and message to be represented.

Since this was a re-design of their previous brand identity, it was important that we took a very well-invested approach in making sure that every possible solution was explored. We focused on developing a symbol/mark that would be capable of representing the company for years to come while maintaining the integrity of their brand. After several rounds of exploration, we knew we landed on an idea that would appropriately and comfortably fit the company.

THE SOLUTION

After extensive research and exploration, we decided to develop an icon/symbol that bridged the first letter of the company’s name and their love for innovation and idea generation.

Walking a few rounds of iteration we came upon the idea of merging the first two letters of the company name with a lightbulb. There was a beautiful sense of fluidity in the idea that needed to be explored and after developing the finalized sketch it was agreed this was the unique direction we all were looking for.We paired with mark with a simple and beautiful sans serif logotype, Avenir, which is a geometric sans-serif typeface and is French for “future”. We felt this was the perfect option for the logotype as it perfectly defines SI’s vision for being a brand of the future.

It was important that the two objects were balanced and connected seamlessly with each other to help speak SI’s brand story, which is one of innovation, creativity, energy, and fun.
